Hello Ed ,the faa uas example you displayed is very similar to the "drone code ", a fact sheet i received when i got my hubsan. I think another thing to watch for is the trade war between  the US and China at the moment, the import duties alone will price a lot of rc stuff through the roof as it all comes from China. I still have not re bound the radian for safe yet ,i have been too busy flying it , i went out last night just before nightfall ,so i could see to adjust the batty and select the light pattern for flight ,and that is a thing in itself ,there are 100 options for the light display and 7 for the speed of light change or flashing , so if i find one i really like and manage to go past it somehow ,i have 699 chances to find it again . I flew for a whole hour on one batty and got one minutes filming ,and that was when i was setting it up one the floor  before the camera batty died .Its funny much like flying the flybeam ,you are looking up at the sky enjoying the spectacle ,then you look down at the ground ,"and where is the ground"  whoops its suddenly got very dark. I had a funny incident whilst flying before it got really dark .A man and his family came across to discus the plane and where i brought it from ,they where fisherman and had  just come from the pond ,where i lost the first hubsan .When i say fisherman i dont mean for sport ,they where potting the nights meal!.Anyway the fella didnt speak much english  ,but he had a posh phone and asked me to put the name of the shop on to his devise , well with my glasses and it getting dark  ,but i did manage it  ,i am more used to the level of technology where you have two baked bean cans and a piece of string between them  dinosaur or what! .Anyway have a good weekend my friend .chris

Yes , landing is difficult enough in the day time

Night can be almost impossible....

have broken the Flybeam Landing gear off a couple times .

These little UMX planes, do very well in the dark..makes no difference
how they land...Lol

very windy and off and on showers here have not done any flying

Hello Ed the faa/uas guidelines you highlighted , look very much like the drone code  which i received with my hubsan ,all common sense .I have never had any sort of guideline  in the box of an rc plane ,other than the makers standard warning of not flying near people or power lines ,that sort of thing .You always have to work around the thankfully small amount of irresponsible irks who give us all a bad name. But having said that ,i like yourself have been paying BMFA/AMFA  fees for the insurance only ,but have you ever heard of an innocent bystander being hurt or injured and the insurance  coming in to play, no of course not ,it would be splashed across every news station in the world.Obviously we are coming into the summer months ,longer days  more flying opportunities ,so as a sport we will be more visible , i bet not many law enforcement will be down the field in january ,when its about 5 below and we haven't seen the sun for weeks.I just think its strange that after living 58yrs without a criminal record  ,one could possibly end up in the  "big house" for flying a piece of foam around the park," well i say its just not cricket old boy"

Wonder if they consider not having a criminal record and give one probation ?

I believe it has actually been over 100 years of models being flown and with ZERO incidents that caused death or
destruction with a manned aircraft .

I did see a video where a young man cut his own throat with a heli blade and it took his life
but that was just ignorance and a mistake .Other than that or a few cut fingers or other limbs
I have yet t see any real issue with RC aircraft .

They just found a way to regulate and charge everyone for having fun , as the Government saw the RC Industry
making big money and had to have their hand in it ( same as all other hobbies )

I stopped my membership with the AMA and depends on what the FAA does I may not register again when mine runs out next year .
The AMA lied to me when i questioned them about the mandated membership and club field flying only insinuations
I now see that is exactly what they were indeed after and for now have it for all who fly in controlled airspace .
I hope that is only temporary and they do NOT make it a permanent thing .

there are other CBO's and it appears the FAA is playing favorites and I simply will not join a club
to fly . Could not put up with the "their way" mentality .

Anyway calling for Thunderstorms and rain, as been a pretty day so far
a bit windy, but Hoping as it is getting cloudy they will ease up and the Storms never show

Edit - Almost forgot I ordered a UMX Timber, going to give it a try and use it FPV as well
will be in sometime next week as this is a memorial day Holiday weekend here

Lost another one .Well i had the radian for all of one week ,i was flying it friday night at 10pm ,pitch dark and having a whale of a time .Went out again on monday ,bit windy but i thought as3x  ,should handle it . I had three or four flights with nice soft landings ,so i made the mistake of going for a last one ,as soon as she left my hand the wind kicked up really vicious and turned the plane back round ,she was motoring down wind gaining height as well  ,prop already retracted. I was getting nervous ,as she was covering a lot of ground ,tried to turn it to make sure she stayed in the field,and she sort of crabbed sideways,and the wind caught it  pushing it backwards over the tree line . I struggled with ,managed to turn it back towards me ,gave it some power and of course it pitched up ,then dropped its nose and disappeared below the tree line ,still about  60 ft up i would guess , that is the last i have seen of it  ,been searching ever since not a happy bunny oh and yes the umx timber is a cub

Still no flying here, has been hot and muggy and off and on T/storms and rain inbetween sunshine

strange as it is windy when it clears up some and the minute it starts raining winds get calm

why can't it be the other way around...

Hello Ed ,i have asked people walking dogs ,knocked on some doors ,looked up so many trees  and beaten back stinging nettles on the ground ,but the radian has just disappeared off the face of the earth .I am almost at the point of giving up,i have put so much effort and money into this over the years ,just not getting much back. I hope you get more fun with the "backwoods timber cub"

yeah it can be frustrating hobby for sure

I battled issues early on seemingly everyday I flew

sort of worked itself out over time, less mishaps, less frustration

well until now that the Government is trying to destroy this hobby
that in itself is frustrating to me .

That is a good name " Backwoods Timber Cub "

coming from across the Country appears it will be another week
before I see it .

I hope the radian shows up somehow...

OK update to all the Drone/RC/planes/multirotor/ hobbyists/commercial/whatever else this hobby is associated with.

OK after several months of people in Controlled airspace NOT being allowed to fly except in fixed locations
(which btw were all AMA ( Academy of Model Aeronautics ) fields )
Which also I believe was illegal due to the fact the FAA can not force CBO ( Community Based Organization ) membership
and or a Aero Club membership which they were actually demanding with their temporary rule for recreational RC hobbyists.

They now have set up LAANC ( Low Altitude Authorization Notification Capability ) for hobbyists . At one time only Part 107
commercial pilots could use that system which gives instant authorization from FAA/ATC in the area one wanted to fly.

SO now the recreational Hobbyist can use that system and get almost instant Authorization to fly in Controlled airspace .

It basically sets the altitude of the area one wants to fly based on the FAA facility maps ceiling limits in controlled airspace

several entities have the LAANC ability such as Airmap and Kittyhawk and Skyward , Airmap also allows web use and the other two just a Phone App.
Found kittyhawk to be inconsistent and showed me to be a commercial drone user instead of a recreational and could not get it to change
even after deleting the App and reinstalling it, became a hassle but the funny part was even without the correct info
it asked for like my Part 107 Number [ which i do not have], it still gave me authority to fly....and after speaking to the ones who ran it, seems they
are not very knowledgeable about this hobby ( commercial is their thing ) then started using Airmap and it works fine but also has a
couple issues one being it asks if you are flying LOS ( yes or no ) well if you answer no it automatically denies authorization.

After speaking to them about it they state that is what the rule says,Keep your drone within your line of sight, HOWEVER they do not
read the rest as it actually states it this way, "Keep your drone within your line of sight, or within the visual line-of-sight of
a visual observer who is co-located and in direct communication with you. "

SO hopefully they will address that and correct the automatic denial if you answer the question are you flying LOS with a no.

But they all ask something different some ask nothing and it appears NONE of them have a clue about this Hobby
Now to be fair I have NOT used Skyward, but i assume it is similar . Also the FAA updated their B4UFly app, BUT it does NOT
give authorization to fly...so what is the point ? Anyway....

....now today the FAA sent out a email about testing for recreational hobbyists and asking entities ( NOT Hobbyists ) what to
place on the test . yeah that is right not asking the people who know but are asking companies and commercial entities
what to place on test questions they are clueless about .

SO ....I assume it will cost some crazy amount and address everything BUT flying an RC aircraft ( much like the part 107 test ) that
had zero about flying a drone but everything abut the weather patterns and sectional maps and airspace etc that manned aircraft pilots
need to know NOT someone flying a normal drone .
And notice it says they have the opportunity to educate recreational flyers on drone safety ? really ? the people who for over 100 years
who have a spotless safety record the FAA and their entities that DO NOT have a spotless safety record wants to educate hobbyists into what
they claim to be a extraordinary aviation safety culture ? REALLY ? the entity that has pilots raping pilots, killing animals, throwing people off planes,
equipment failures, plane failures ,planes landing on highways , planes being flown on purpose into the oceans, to drunk and drug addicted pilots
crashing planes into neighborhoods etc etc, which all have resulted in mass deaths and that is the so called extraordinary aviation safety culture ?
REALLY ? that is what you want to educate Hobbyists in ? Plzz...

Well we all know it was and will always be about the mighty dollar...has ZERO to do with safety as RC hobbyists have a perfect safety record
and have had NO Issues in the National Airspace for over 100 years.....and even with more and more RC aircraft being introduced into
the skies, there still have been ZERO incidents with them...Now we have had videos and reports that differ, BUT have you noticed since this
new law was introduced and passed, ZERO Videos of "drones" near aircraft..O yeah a few reports that claim they saw drones flying Thousands of feet
in the air and hundreds if feet away from them ( which FYI is impossible to see ) but reports nonetheless.

SO here we are...awaiting yet another fiasco for the safety of the skies, as the dreaded RC drones ( which btw means ALL RC aircraft ) that have caused
zero safety issues and in the real world manned aircraft continue to drop from the skies in record numbers and many deaths rarely spoken of on
the mainstream media outlets, most are just on local news agencies where it happens.

BUT we all want safety and we all want to obey laws and rules...however when you have a bureaucracy that can not even police it's own
issues and is now tasked to try and make rules and laws about a Hobby it has NO CLUE about, well we all see how moronic they are
concerning it . And WHY they refuse to actually ask and gather REAL Hobbyists together to make it work correctly is beyond me.

educate Hobbyists FAA ? You can not even educate yourselves on a subject you know about, much less one you are clueless of....laughable it is
but also makes one sick to know things like this continue to steal our rights away...one hobby at a time .

That's my rant for the moment
I am sure when the test comes out, it will be worse... ....
