Ok I installed Balsa wood at the battery box instead of popsicle stick . But as I took off the battery compartment door and took all the screws out and was going to cut away some foam I see the plastic box the clear part that the screws mount into stuck up above and into the foam I would have needed to cut away . SO I just used a thinner balsa wood and glued in place and did no cutting out of the foam and re-installed the battery compartment door cover and base. It sticks up above the fuselage ever so slightly, but it worked with no cutting.
Anyone else have that issue while performing that Mod ?
Balsa not as strong as the other but anything to strengthen the foam and the screw placement is a plus , Right ?

It might be best if you can post a pic so we can see exactly what you're talking about. Usually, it's best to carve out some foam for the wood to sit into so it all fits flush. Balsa is much weaker than the popsicle stick, but if you get it to soak up some CA glue that should make it a lot stronger.

I'm with dillzio on this. A picture paints a thousand words. Also lolly sticks are free!

Some balsa is maybe better than no balsa. Very thin balsa is almost no balsa and would add negligible strength. If you are going to go through the hassle you may as use something worth the effort.

It is all together so it is hard to explain or show......But I will try and get a pic so you see somewhat of what I am talking about.

Hopefully this will show how the batt Box sticks above the fuselage. Again the plastic box where the screws mount stuck up into the foam so far I could not cut the foam without cutting the plastic battery box inside....and I did not want to cut the plastic box afraid I would mess it up....so as you say a little maybe a little, but even a little is better than Nothing at all.

I took it apart again and redone it....figured out how to get around the plastic battery box sticking up so high.Trimmed the foam but popsicle sticks keep splitting, so redone the balsa wood and cut it different now the battery box lines up with the fuselage looks much better. Yes stick is stronger but splits very easy....balsa is lighter not as strong, but does stay in one piece when cutting or putting screws through it... I made a complete square like the battery door frame, even cut out for the X Port Plug opening............even drilling out the popsicle stick they still split...glued up balsa will serve the purpose anyway I believe. I'l just leave it as is and hope for the best, sure at some point I will have to repair it anyway.....I am considering a complete framed battery box and using thin plywood making it all stronger....it will not be that much heavier. Same as those I have used in balsa kits. Hopefully I will never need it, but if I do, it will be there.I have a complete extra fuselage and in fact I have a complete Cub in parts already, just in case.

Mabe use a piece of lite-ply instead of p-sticks?
