My new HK radio arrived today. Initial impressions. Basically the same weight and feel as the DX5e. Comes pre-bound analog trims uses 4 standard channels and 2 variable pots for 5 and 6. Variable pots can be set to any channel as well. Channels can be reprogrammed for various stick configurations. Two toggles can be programmed for dual rates or throttle cut, no other options from the software I have. It should allow programming for three or 4 seperate rates The HK cable works for programming with the driver linked below. My sim cable works for FMS, with a little tweaking. Setting up the software was a bit of a pain, but once its setup, reprogramming is pretty straightforward. I'll try to get a range check soon. Links to software The Hobbyking Config program, and Manual www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/forum/uploads/32/6ch.zipI had to use this driver for the USB cable. It took a little bit to get it to work right for some reason, but it does work. It sets up the USB port as a virtual com port. www.silabs.com/products/interface/usbtouart/Pages/default.aspxAn alternative programmer, seems to be easier to use. www.rcgroups.com/forums/showatt.php?attachmentid=2389816The above programmer requires this download to run. cid-03159e0e1c9ad8b7.skydrive.live.com/self.aspx/.Public/ATEasy6-136a.exe

It took me about an hour to find and install the software, and program the radio.

duck, I can't seem to find a driver for the Tx for WinXP or Vista. That link is confusing me a bit. Do you know of any alternatives? What others are using? I need to program my radio soon (before Sunday) to reverse a servo and adjust the throw a bit. Thanks, Erwin.

The USB UART driver for the Cable is here www.silabs.com/products/interface/usbtouart/Pages/default.aspxIf you check in the dowloads section, (2nd column from the right) there is a download for the CP210X for win XP. This is the one I needed. There is also one for Vista. These drivers are for the cable only. Once the USB cable drivers are installed, The T6Config software will work after that. You will have to select the appropriate port in your configuration.

Hey Duck, have you had a chance to do a range check yet?

I've had perfect range upto just about 1500 feet away. I've never tried to do a range check. I'm guessing 3000-4000 feet? I will try this soon.

I've come up with a nice, simple mod to get this transmitter to run off rechargeable lipos. When you take off the back casing, you'll find two wires coming from the battery compartment connecting to the radio's circuitry by a 2S balance plug. I happened to have a couple laying around from some of the stuff I've bought off ebay.
I've unplugged the battery compartment and taped the wire out of the way with some electrical tape. I've then plugged in my own 2S balance plug, that I'm putting a male deans connector at the end of. I'm going to cut a hole in the battery cover for the battery to stick out of, and fix it to the transmitter with velcro. I'll then be able to run the transmitter with the little lipos I bought for my original super cub (with the stock battery box), and won't have to waste any more money on AAs :-)
